Zimbabwe

Today I choose to write in english. I really learned something today, that hasn´t been a focus in the newsreports in Sweden, or maybe I havn't been listening too carefully. I went to see a movie about the land reform in Zimbabwe, and oh boy was I touched! It was a documentary with interviews with both the farmers/landowners and their employees. I got too see actual footage of beaten and shot people and them telling their story about the assaults and kidnappings.
Afterwords there was time for reflections on the documentary. I learned that the reasons for all this violence is that many of the landowners and their employees had their sympathies with the opposition. With an election coming up it was a way for the government to stay in power. The representative from the GAPWUZ (farmworkers union) belives that the reform was/is necessary, but it happened in a very unnecessary way, with a lot of bloodshed and for the wrong reason.
The consequenses are; farmworkers suffer from very poor working conditions under their new government friendly employers and the country that used to be an african breadbasket is now starving since the crops are rotting due to incompetence and lack of interest.
The GAPWUZ has a plead; spread the word!
